EDITORIAL: Election 2012: Heap for DA (Endorsement from the Savannah Morning News)

FOUR YEARS ago, Larry Chisolm, who had been the legal counsel at Savannah State University, was the fresh face on the ballot in the race for Chatham County district attorney after incumbent Spencer Lawton decided to retire after 28 years.

Mr. Chisolm won more than 54 percent of the vote to defeat David Lock, who had been Mr. Lawton’s chief assistant, and promised to bring new ideas and new ways of doing things to the office. His political timing worked, as Mr. Chisolm, a Democrat, benefitted …

Another Endorsement for Meg-remember residents of West Chatham (Savannah Quarters, Pooler, Port Wentworth and Garden City-this race affects all of you!)

I appreciate this as this race is critical for each and everyone of us.

To all Savannah Quarters residents and friends.  I urge you to carefully consider the credentials of Meg Heap.   In my opinion one of the most important races in this years elections is for the Chatham County DA position.  Over the past several years there has been a litany of mistakes, embarrassments and errors under the current regime.  Please consider the candidacy of Meg Heap for District Attorney.  I have had the …

All Tricks and No Treats. A True Nightmare on Montgomery Street.

All Tricks and No Treats. A True Nightmare on Montgomery Street.

During the debate, many of you witnessed Meg reading from several sheets of paper where she names case after case that has been reduced, lost, or dismissed in the DA’s Office. While this is the list that she read from (including pertinent news articles), there have been many more. This is simply a list that Meg compiled of cases that angered her. For each case, I have found the news articles associated with it, and you can click the link to read the articles.

Updated Sign Waving Schedule-Can You Help?

Updated Sign Waving Schedule-Can You Help?

It’s crunch time and Meg Heap needs your help! We have updated schedule for waving signs —
need 2 people for each slot if possible. Wear red.
.
If your schedule only allows you to wave 1 1/2 hours instead of two hours, that’s okay. If you can do a different day at assigned location, that works too. We’ll take you when we can get you. Do not wave within 150 feet of voting site.

Please help out and let me know if you think of others who might …

2 Letters to the editor today! (Savannah Morning News)

First Letter by Jerry Hogan:

As has been reported many times over the past year, the Chatham County District Attorney’s Office under Larry Chisolm is broken.

A few of the current local controversies that are a direct result of the mismanagement of the DA’s office include: prosecutors dropping murder charges against a person who has sat in jail for over a year and a half; a Chatham County Superior Court Judge handing down an order that dismissed murder and kidnapping charges against the suspect involved in the …

Great Letter to the Editor today! (Savannah Morning News, Bobby Phillips)

Great Letter to the Editor today! (Savannah Morning News, Bobby Phillips)

Having practiced law in Savannah since 1974, I have handled thousands of criminal cases, including major felonies, as well as misdemeanors.

I have tried cases both with Meg Heap and her opponent before he became district attorney.

Four years ago, I supported the incumbent in his successful campaign to be elected district attorney for Chatham County. I did so with optimism and enthusiasm hoping he would continue the strong leadership associated with the position.

Heap gets group’s first Republican endorsement

At its October meeting, the Board of Directors of Georgia Equality, Georgia’s leading non-partisan political advocacy organization representing the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered community, voted unanimously to endorse three Chatham County candidates running in the Nov. 6 general election.

All three of these candidates returned very positive responses on questionnaire forms sent out by Georgia Equality to measure their level of support toward LGBT related issues.
